Dr K. Kondlo his masterpiece work " in the twighlight of the Azanian struggle" argues that armed struggle was not the sufficient means of dismantling apartheid, he adds that the ANC regarded the armed struggle as a bargaining tactic other that a complete means to attain liberation, on the other hand, the PAC regarded armed struggle as a sufficient means to attain liberation. It must be borne in mind that the military might of the SA government under apartheid was impregnable that no African State could challenge her. My view is that armed struggle was a tactic instead of a means of liberating us, why would it take us more than 30 years to embark in it ?. International sanctions and the winds of change within the national party played a role for our independence.

Apartheid is the product of colonialism, that's why has finds it useless to talk about the term apartheid without tackling colonialism first. The term 'apartheid', was was first coined by the late Hendrik Verwoed, who was the prime minister in the 1950's. He is the one who initiated the 'divide and rule' tactic and that's how the term came into being. Now, when the African National Native Congress [ANNC], now the ANC, was formed on 12 July 1912, the direction of the struggle was aimed at toppling all forces of colonialism not apartheid. After the inflitration by the Communist Party in the 1920's the ANNC had to transform into a liberal movement and it was renamed the ANC[ African National Congress]. And after adopting the 1955 Kliptown charter [the so-called Freedom Charter], the ANC officially abandoned the struggle against colonilism. The struggle against colonialism, goes hand-in-hand with the struggle for land because colonialsm is whereby colonial countries or the imperialists entirely invade other countries exerting their hegemony control. The colonised contries become colonies. The ANC basically was fighting to dismantle apartheid and the PAC has been fighting to eradicate it. By eradicating it, you must first claim the ownership of your land through defeating colonialism. If you dismantle something i.e the gun, you can again re-assemble it, now the best way is to eradicate it because it will never re-surface. Now the armed struggle was partially effective because it only led to Codesa and Kempton Park talks. During these talks the PAC had no ally. The ANC once again collaborated with our oppressors, making compromises at the expense of the vast African masses. Today the same ANC will boast having brought democracy in this country, but to prove contrary, the genuine freedom is yet to be attained. That's why there are protests throughout the country. You must achieve freedom first and thereafter apply democratic principles[democracy]. So in short, the armed waged by the PAC through APLA, has achieved little until the land return to the rightful-owners, the indigenous AFRICANS.
