Jean Paul Satre once said: "Words are loaded pistols". The mindless use of language and misuse of concepts that are half digested often have a lasting detrimental effect on those that we seek to mobilise. What amuses me is the choice of words used by Moloto earlier on in which he copies expressions used by the ANC when they lambast the PAC. In that vile propaganda booklet "PAC - An Alternative or a Flat Spare Tyre" produced by the Charterits, they mauled the leadership in the PAC over three decades stating that each time the organisation repositions itself they recycle individuals in the leadership. They were telling the PAC how to get it right in choosing leadership, and apparently some among us have taken this advice. The ANC is hoping that maleable characters will emerge from the ranks of the Party to assume leadership positions and then somersault and deliver the political legacy of Lembede/Mda/Sobukwe/Pokela/Raboroko/Mothopeng et al to them. At the time when they produce thiis booklet - in 1996 - there was a strong and positive mood of public support for the PAC after the convention in Mamelodi and the subsequent restructuring of leadership headed by Stanley Mogoba.
On the same day that Moloto made the comment that this chat room was putting PAC in disrepute and that some of us are not members, the ANC had accused Zwelinzima Vavi of the same charge. Words have a funny way of telling the truth - all you have to do is listen attentively. Re tshwara kgomo ka dinaka, motho re mo tshwara ka loleme. Clearly Moloto and his cohorts endorse Mfanelo Skwatsha's statement to the public that unless the PAC raises hundreds of millions of rands to stay in politics, it must close shop. For me, this is bile served to the public. Gordon Brown performed badly in the British elections because, among others things like poor policies and weak strategies, he chose wrong words. He repeated negative ideas again and again and again. US Republican John McCain staged a campaign based on aggression and war talk to a weary electorate that needed change and hope for the better. Both these men are losers because they couldn't understand the pitfalls of negative approach. Their death wish is subtly expressed in the ways that they handled themselves, their interaction with colleagues, and even in the way they handled the voters. The way to go is to use the power of positive affirmation, a well known tool for for advancing your cause. You cannot advance the Africanists cause unless you believe in it and its ability to overcome all obstacles and to achieve victory. In South Africa today, most politicians and would-be leaders and the pretenders to leadership, are advancing self interest. They use political organisations to shield these vested interests, and then use willing fools as pawns. That is why you have branches (even in the PAC) that are owned by individuals and are manipulated by these characters. The school of thought in the PAC is that we invest our resources in the development of individuals to uphold principles of honesty, uprightness, courage and fearlessness, and the love for African people (to affirm our humanity) so that we can serve them wholeheartedly. Once equiped with the philosophy of Africanism each PAC recruit cannot be lied to or hoodwinked into a blind alley or even have wool pulled over their eyes. As the Africanist Manifesto says, we do not allow membership and followers to be cannon fodder. Everyone who is a member must be familiar with the Basic Documents, and especially the Code of Conduct, and we cannot go wrong. I would encourage everyone to question and criticise wrong doing in the PAC and in society - but they must do so with facts. Party building rests on two critical factors: (1) criticism and self criticism - to make continuous assessment of the political theories we hold and the correct implementation of programmes we have decided upon. This is positive and constructive, allowing the membership to act as its own mirror; (2) unity - criticism - unity wherein the conscious act of working for unity inside the Party is uppermost to all of us, but that it should not be unprincipled and uninformed; there is also the dialectical unity of opposites in which we could possibly hold different views and approaches but that we are not necessarily poles apart in driving the cause of the African Revolution; to always refresh ourselves as a yardstick to achieve unity. It is considered a cardinal sin to impose your views and methods on the collective whole that is the PAC (because it will engender negative backlash and even divide the core members of the Party) without first canvassing your ideas and approaches in a transparent and democratic manner and reaching an acceptable support in formal structures. 'Dare to struggle - Dare to Win.' Words are loaded pistol indeed.
