Comrade Seroke and Ndebele.

Recently I read the work of Sir Karl Popper " the open society and its enemies"
though I was reading some extracts which were cited by Michael Cloate. In his
work, Popper argues that the raise of totalitarianism and racism of the
Europeans was chiefly influenced by the philosophical work of Plato. The
Platonic dialog was widely quoted. It was this European totalitarianism with
its attendant of racism which were responsible for colonialism in Africa. On
the other hand, a host of scholars believe that industrial revolution of the
18th and 19th centuries was the driver of European colonialism. This
phenomenon of industrial revolution sought a territorial expansion for its
expanding markets and the source of raw materials for exploitation. Again, the
period of European enlighten in the 18th century taught Europeans that they
were superior than Africans. Germans for instance, believed in herrenvolkism ,
that is, they were a superior race.

In your understanding what were the drivers for colonialism in Africa ?
