I thank you for you response and I do not think there is another explanation or
definition to the Azania.
Throughout my research I came up with almost exact definition of the name
Azania. But anyone one who have additional or parallel views regarding this
name can come forth.

M’Afrika Sibeko
I will share the explanation on the origin and PAC adopting the name Azania as
presented by M’Afrika Raboroko at the PASO Conference held around 1996 or 1996
at Transvaal Teachers Training College of Education (TTTCE). M’Afrika Peter
Nkutsoeu Raboroko formed part of the task team formed to research and find
alternative name for a liberated South Africa to reflect the history and
identity of the African people in line with project the African personality
principle/objective.
Azania meaning the “The mild land of the Blacks, South of Africa” its climate
significantly varies from that of East Africa and North Africa as explained by
M’Afrika Peter Nkutsoeu former PAC Secretary for Education. Azania the name
draws its origin from the Empire of Zanj or Zandj. The land of Zanj according
was situated South East of Africa others scholars pointed to mostly in what is
today’s modern day Tanzania, Zanzibar, Somalia, and Kenya, moving as far as
Mozambique and Zimbabwe and had a group of many city states on the coast of the
and on the surrounding islands. The climate in the land of Zanj is very dry.
Geographically, the land of Zanj stretched roughly from the northern part of
modern day Mozambique to modern day Somalia, including many islands with that
range. The economy in The Land/Empire of Zanj was primarily based of trade with
the Persians, Indians, and Arabs and to some extent the Chinese. Other scholars
pointed that the Land of Zanj influenced the some Chinese and Indian
economically and culturally.
The name Zanj is understood to mean "Land of the Blacks" some referred to Zanj
originating from primeval or original Swahili meaning the “Land of the Black
People or negroes” as explained by M’Afrika Raboroko at the PASO Conference
held at Transvaal Teachers Training College of Education (TTTCE), thus from
Zanj, PAC research team assigned with a task to find and/or formulate a name
for a liberated South Africa, were inspired by the history, political economy
and civilisation of the Empire of Zanj or Land of Zanj hence the name Azania
was formulated, recommended and adopted by PAC. In formulating the name Azania,
it had to resonant in terms of the system of sounds or the science concerned
with the study of speech processes, including the production, perception, and
analysis of speech sounds from both an acoustic and a physiological point of
view of the African languages namely the Nguni (Zulu, Xhosa, Swati and
Ndebele), Sotho (Tswana, Pedi and Sesotho of Basotho-Lesotho),Venda and Tsonga
including KiSwahili, Zanj was then reformulated to Azania which then meant the
liberated “ mild land of the Blacks/Africans, south of Africa”.

Cdes Nkrumah, Ndebele,Seroke and all africanists

My two year old boy’s name is Azania. Everywhere I go, people ask, why name a
child Azania. My wife has become indignant, chiefly because she can’t give a
coherent explanation and a meaning. I am unfazed and believe I chose a name
which all loyal Africanists would like to name their children with. Do you have
a historical account on how and when the PAC adopted the name, and how did this
influence the black consciousness movements in the late 60’s and early 70’s to
adopt it. I saw some video clips of the seventies people chanting the slogan
‘one Azania, one nation”
