trouble with streaming

Hi list, can someone help me with this. When I wanted to record something, 
either from my tape player, or from a radio station, I used soundforge, and 
all was well. Now however, although I can hear the input from the tape 
player, or the radio station through my sound card, I can only record from 
the tape player. I believe that i have checked, or unchecked something in 
the volumes setup of windows, which is causing the problem. I believe my 
sound card, is Avance Ac97 Audio. I can't find it in programmes, so I can't 
reset it for the defaults. and maybe it wouldn't help if i could. any help 
would be appreciated. I am using xp home. brian.
