You can go to whatever part of the file you want with the arrow, ctrl-arrow,
pgup ctrl-pgup, and pg-down, ctrl-pg-down keys.  Adding ctrl means more
movement.  You can also play the file and hit return where you want to stop.
You can also use ctrl-g (goto), followed by time in hours, minutes, seconds,
and fractions of seconds down to 3 decimal places.  Tab moves you between
channels--both, left, and right--repeats.  Find the segment you want and use
the keys to move you to where it ends..  Copy it to the clipboard.  Close
the file you're using or make a new window and paste your file in that.
Alt-, n, to make a new window.  You might need to use the ctrl-n to set the
sound attributes to mono.  Which of these methods you use depends on what
you want to do.
