What you are describing in the main window will move you forward or back in
a particular track.

When in Winamp and focus is on the main window, you can
adjust the balance with the right and left arrow keys.

If you're up for editing the winamp.ini file, look for the
line pan equals and make the number zero, that is the number
zero not the word zero.
