That is my practice!
I use cdrw's for my daily backups, because
I do a seven day cycle, so
every week each disk is erased and re-written.
Of course, I also back up my data files to another hard drive.
I use cdr's, for permanent storage of data, and audio cd's.
I also burn data disks containing only mp3 files, so that I can listen to
the files in devices other than the computer.
This procedure works for me, so I'm not inclined to change.
After all, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
There is alot of discussion on the different types of compact disks, and
their uses, it enough to keep us confused
