Right! well its been a while since I've needed to make any ajustments in this area so I'm going to have to rely on memory here.
Firstly you go into preferences and select the "OUTPUT PLUG-INS" branch of the tree. Select the "WAVEOUT" plug-in and press the "CONFIG" button. The first thing you need to do is to make sure that Winamp is accessing your sound device directly rather than going through anything like the Microsoft Sound Mapper or the Total Recorder driver.
Next you may like to ajust the various buffer track-bars you'll find in the "CONFIG" dialog, its a bit of a guessing game to find out which combination works best and every system behaves differently.
Tweeking Winamp in this way is detailed fully in an issue of Silicon Chip which came out about 4 years ago, the publishers of Silicon Chip did about 4 or 5 articles dealing with Winamp and associated issues as Winamp was used as a core to the remote control jukebox project which readers could build.

Dane,
What would the "tweaking", that one would do, to bridge this problem be, in Win Amp? Which part of the preferences would one go to and what should be done?
Thanks,
Mac Norins

I take it what you actually mean is you want a MP3 player that doesn't cross fade rather it doesn't insert 2 second gaps but you should consider why some players actually do leave a gap. Various MP3 players (some portables and walkman type) have to insert a gap so as to load the following MP3 track into a buffer, the buffer is used fo the shock protection system etc.
If you're talking DVD players? Then the one's I've seen do not leave a gap between tracks, they do not need a buffer as they do not get moved from point A to point B as a rule.
If you're having problems with gaps in Winamp (this can happen on slower PC's) then you can tweek Winamps settings to avoid this problem.

On a player that can play .mp3 cd's is it possible to cross-fade the tracks ie. where the album is of a live performance broken in to tracks, is it possible to cut out that 2-second silence each of these players wants to insert by default. mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] When you have eliminated the impossible. whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. _______________________________________________ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org
