Now here's the situation. I have a portable boombox where i cna connect it
to my pc. I have the cable connected to the headphone jack. will that
matter?

I had this similar problem when I started my tape digitization project a
few months ago. I discovered that the settings on my sound card needed to
be changed. go to your volume control and choose properties from the file
menu. then choose recording properties from the combo box. Uncheck the
what you hear option. some sound cards don't have this and instead have an
option called a stereo mix or a mono mix. Uncheck these as well. Now
check the line in input where your tape deck is connected to your computer,
such as line in or line in 2.

I am using goldWave. i try to record. I hear the recording. but it is very
quiet. I also hear my stupid screen reader.
