Hi I bought the Iriver h320 a month or so ago for exactly the purpose of getting good recordings and have never looked back. It's a bit pricy though as it has a 20 gb hard disk. But it is quite accessible and easy to work with.
I recorded a big part of an international congress on mental health and deafness last week with the built-in mic at 64 kbps mono and was quite surprised at the sound quality.
