Where can I get a sound card or driver that may generically work that will allow me to pan Jaws on one side and the rest of the audio on the other? What I want to do is to have Jaws on one side and dictation on the other for transcription. I am studying at a local tech school to become a medical transcriptionist, and I find trying to hear both mixed together difficult at times. I also could really use the ability to turn the dictation up and leaving jaws in the background in situations when the dictator is too quiet. When I was at a training program for the blind for general skills and the like, we did typing tests with a special pair of headphones that had the tape machine on one side and computer sound on the other. This won't work in my modern situation because everything comes through the sound card. Also, at least the software at school, there is no way to switch the program to use a second card so whipping up a pair of these phones some how wouldn't do me much good anyways. How can I get the same result done in software once I get on the job, assuming that most platforms don't support choosing the sound device you want? If I got some sort of USB headset, can it be set to do this, as I'm sure the other people that work wherever I end up won't like hearing on one side only very much? I thought of the external synth idea, but I'd rather use a software method so that others can hear normally when I switch it back. Also, it seems my Pac Mate can't be used as an external synthesizer, and I would probably need something USB that I can't afford.
