Hi all,
I realize this is fairly offtopic, but I can't really access much of the
internet any more, so I'm hoping Thunderbird can get this through.
My Acer laptop is having major troubles getting on the internet. The
modem dials fine, but there's no connection there. This happens about 90
percent of the time I connect. When I do connect, the connection is
extremely slow. But that's not really the point of this message.

The question I want to ask is why is XP not detecting the modem in my
other machine? The modem's in the box, it hasn't been jostled or moved
or anything, all that's happened is an update from win 98 to xp. But XP
won't detect the modem at all. It won't detect my serial port either,
from the looks of it. Everything else seems to have been found, but my
modem, a motorola sm56 isn't being autodetected with several restarts.
I'd really appreciate someone telling me what to do. As I've said, most
of the time I can't access any sort of forum. I found one but there were
about 48 separate posts asking for drivers, 1 with an email address that
the people could contact if they needed the drivers and the original
problem post. I'm getting high speed in a week, but I need Email to
receive assignments and send them back. Not to mention keeping up with
the 100 emails a day I receive.

Thanks

Brandon
