wWell, here is how all this worked out.
No matter what we did, we couldn't get Juice to accept the notion that another
copy of itself wasn't running despite one couldn't find a copy of the program
on the pc.
My wife suggested that we find another version of Juice to see if that might
somehow trick the system into installing.
And on the 2nd try, it did.
This left the problem of Juice trying to locate the saved podcast directory
which no longer existed on the drive the program believed it did.
I came up with one of my infrequent brainstorms and devised a plan to trick the
software into finding that directory.
If you recall, the problem was that the drive that stores the downloads (letter
e) suddenly became an "l" with "e" now a cd/dvd drive.
What if I created a cd with the appropriate directory "/mrp" with some podcasts
in it.
Juice fell for the trick immediately allowing me to get into the program and
correct the downloads folder.
Not wanting a similar problem down the road, I decided to store the downloads
henceforth on the "c:" drive.
Now some observations: while both the Juice uninstaller and add/remove
programs XP utility decided that Juice was off the system, none of the
configuration info was touched.
Hence, when the program returned to the pc, it immediately picked up all the
previous settings including subscriptions and what had been downloaded, what
had been erased, skipped, etc.
While in this instance, this was a positive; it is a reminder that programs
removed from the system still do leave their tracks. So, in many instances,
elements linger on for as long as you have the pc.
.
Finally, thanks to Flor, Gene A., Gene s, Pam d., Ron c. Sarah,
and others who offered their guidance over the last several days.
