Marsha! Sadly, that's not true. First of all, movies from WGBH are at least
$30 per movie. Secondly, they are on VHS tape. They are at least twice the
price of a VHS tape assuming you can even find VHS tapes these days. Even a
DVD new release movie sells for between $15 and $20. Older titles by only a
few months can be had for anywhere from $5 to $10 in the bargain bin at your
local Walmart, target, K-Mart, best buy or circuit city.
These VHS movies are bad for two reasons.
First, VHS tapes do not last as long as DVD's and to be properly cared for
must be wound forward and back at least once a year so that they do not
degrade due to magnification.
Secondly, if sighted family members are in the same room, they must listen
to the descriptive audio track whether they want to or not. Even as a blind
person, once I have heard the descriptive audio a few times, I probably
won't care to hear it again.

Hi
Actually if you buy the movies from WGBH, the price is the same as the
retail price for a regular movie.

you know the whole oproblem with the whole descriptive video thing is that
we as blind people pay way way more for the same movie a sited person would
get with out the dvs track.
Why can't their be a law passed in our national congress saying that each
new release that comes out on dvd has to have a separate dvs track for the
blind, I mean, if the deaf can get closed captioning why can't we get dvs in
our movies and televition shows with out paying out rageous prices for the
same services as the sited?
