yes it had speakers that faced your body on each end of the radio, so it would still be possible to hear someone else wearing the unit. I think at the time it really was a gimmick. I'd never seen anything more about similar technologies to do this so don't know anything about anything that might be newer. I assume anything would work in the same fashion as the bone phone.
