I guess it's my turn to add to the confusion.  The bone conduction 
headphones that I saw rested on the hard bony pad behind your ears and the 
sound was transmitted through your skull to your ears.  The Fidelity was not 
good nor was the channel separation.

The bone phone is entirely different.  It was a small earphone type unit 
that plugged into your ear and picked up the sound of your voice transmitted 
by your skull.  It also was an earphone, with some exotic canceling 
circuitry that limited feedback.  It could be effectively used as a 
telephone headset, and had the distinctive advantage of not picking up 
sounds in the room.  However, if you scratched your head or clicked your 
teeth, the other party could hear that clearly.  The audio fidelity of the 
microphone component was pretty muddy, for obvious reasons.  Perhaps those 
of us with hard heads or thick skulls could make better use of this phone.
