I'm not sure why there seems to be a bit of a bad rap on the Crane either. I 
have 2. They work fine, also older models. I also have 2 "Wholehouse" 
transmitters. They are distributed company in Michigan, sell for around $85 
and work great both for distance and signal quality. You can connectthem to 
your computer with the supplied USB connector, or you can plug them into a 
receiver's headphone jack, just like you would a Crane. These units are very 
accessible and I'm very happy with the 2 that I have. I don't recall the url 
but it's googleable.
