Goldwave's okay, but Sound Forge is much more like using a word processor for
sound editing.  Of course Sony's site is the place to get a free trial or buy
it.

I often wonder if Jim Snowbarger has ever done scripts for Sony Sound Studio,
which is a cut down version of SF, and it's much cheaper.  SF10 is a 32
channel editor and rather more than many want or need.
