Hi David,
Go to the rockbox web site and download the rockbox utility. everything can
be done in that program including creating of speaking menu/voice clips of
your files, updating your IRiver firmware to work with rockbox if u haven't
done so, installing the latest rockbox software etc. the software is quite
complex and its rather difficult to explain over here. however, it should be
easy to navigate around if u take some time to explore it.

5 years u said? its indeed a long time. actually, rockbox has come quite
far now. their latest version is 3.70 and has been rock solid through
these years. there is a utility that the team has come up with for u to
do all relevant rockbox stuffs which is the rockbox utility which can be
downloaded from www.rockbox.org. its not the most accessible software
around but with some efficient computer knowledge, its definitely usable.
let me know if u need further help and I'll see how much I could assist
you. I dare not say I'm extremely efficient, but my last built was
version 3.60 so I think I could roughly help u a little if u so need.
