Well I cheated, I use 2 sound cards, speech comes out one and I use the other which is a better card for all my recording/playback, sound cards are dirt cheap these days so no problem having multiples.
Now I'm not sure whether this feature is still available but I remember seeing an exclusion list somewhere, this lists purpose was to allow Total Recorder to exclude running software from the software recording, thus you could add say JAWS to this list and Total Recorder would ignore it when you were recording a software stream.
