can shows recorded in DVR be put onto a DVD disc?

My niece has a lot of shows recorded for me on her DVR and she plays them for 
me when I'm home, since talking DVR's don't exist of course.  But as I am away 
right now and she's still recording, is there a way to put some of these onto a 
disc so I could watch them on a DVD player?  Thanks, and if so, what type of 
cords are needed to do this?
