Hi Mary.

I'm very surprised to hear tghat the DM620 doesn't allow you to pause during
a recording without creating a new file.

I'm not sure what you consider to be reasonably priced but my Olympus DM4
definitely allows me to pause a recording without creating a new file. In
addition, it also has TTS in addition to the regular voice guidance found in
the 620. Because it has TTS, Symantha to be specific, it will read text
files, Daisy, and speak file and folder
Names. It has 2 very nice stereo mics and a small speaker. The only thing
I don't like about this recorder is that it uses a lithium polimer battery
and not triple a. You can get them new online for about $300 but I've seen
them a few times on some of the buy sell trade lists for the blind.

I also have an Olympus DS50 that has voice guidance, uses triple a batteries
and allows you to pause a recording without creating a new file. HTH

Best regards,

Rick Alfaro

Will the ls14 or any other reasonably priced accessible recorder let you
append to an existing recording? My understanding is that a new file is
started, for example, with the dm620, if you pause and start up again. I
know you could do stuff with audio editing software. But I'm not interested
in that. I want to do what you use to be able to do with a cassette
recorder, i.e. hit the pause button while making a recording, and hit it
again or hit a different key to start up the recording and have both pieces
end up in one file.
