Okay...then I must have gotten incorrect information; it may be "mind over
matter" but it seems like files work better and sound better in the VIP
Client if they are at a higher bit rate!  I figured it did increase the
quality of sound; maybe my ear is just telling me the wrong things?

Tom, you are absolutely not increasing the file quality by doing so.  
All you are doing is increasing the file size.
