I am not suggesting that Winamp is perfect. I have had crashes with it and
there is an issue for me using JAWS in having it not properly gaining focus
until I do a JAWS screen refresh. I have, however, looked at VLC, Windows
Media Player and other players, and none of the others appear to give me the
option to do all of what I can do with Winamp.
If VLC and Windows Media Player meet your needs, well that is fine, but
there are others like me who have found from experience that Winamp has much
more flexibility. If you deny this, I can only say that you need to think
again.

I won’t say that VLC has more nor less but it does have many of the features
that Winamp has.
I’ve never claimed that VLC or Windows Media Player etc are the best and I
will never ever claim that but I will say that both are good players, both
have good and bad points and Winamp, VLC Windows Media Player or anything

14. The ability to review tracks in a playlist by arrowing up and down.
15. The ability to search a playlist for tracks containing key words.
16. The ability to press enter on a track in Windows Explorer and have it
start playing without the focus moving from Windows Explorer.
17. The ability to set a placemarker in a file when using JAWS.
18. The ability to set bookmarks for streams.
19. The ability to play a wide range of audio formats.
20. The ability to jump to a specific time in a track.
21. The ability to play the last few seconds of a track (possibly a JAWS
feature).
22. The ability to easily get information about streams and tracks, such
as the bit rate.
I'm sure there are other features that don't come to mind immediately. If
Dane or anyone else can tell me of another free or low cost player which
they know will doo all of the above as well or better than Winamp, I would
be willing to give it a try.
