Thanks Ihsan! I logged in - via a browser - into sunsolve.sun.com (using the same userid/password I passed to the pca script) and I was able to manually downloaded one patch. (I guess what threw me off initially was the fact that the patchdiag.xref file downloaded from the same site but not the binaries.) I then ran pca again and it worked like a charm - compared to the "pretender" solaris update manager.
