Hey there you college sailing fan you. We had a little bit of a wacky
day in Annapolis for day one of the Navy Spring Women's regatta. The
day started with a one hour postponement ashore while we waited for
the breeze to materialize. Both fleets were sent out at approximately
1030 and racing began on Annapolis Harbor just off Triton Point at
1100. One race was sailed in each division in a Westerly breeze at
around 4 knots. After race 2B, the breeze tried to fill from every
possible direction but eventually faded and the fleet was sent in for
a short lunch break. Racing resumed in the Severn River in front of
the Robert Crown Center at 1300. Five additional A division and 4 more
B division races were completed in a Northwesterly breeze ranging from
4 to 12 knots before the breeze eventually died for the day at around
1530. All races were W4s with offsets, gates, and a finish line to the
opposite side of the start line.
A big thank you to our PRO, Professor Kyle Assad, as well as our
volunteer squad of John Wright, Jim Wojick, Ian McGinness, Dave
Clinnin, and Alana O'Reilly for filling in for our normal team of
Midshipmen as they're currently enjoying their spring break. No
protests were filed on the day. Tomorrow's forecast is for a slightly
stronger Northwesterly breeze.
