PCCSC Sailors, Coaches, Administrators and Alumni, On our PCCSC conference call yesterday we announced that there will not be a PCCSC competition schedule for Fall 2020. This decision was made considering many factors, including plans from our member universities for the Fall, the ICSA COVID task force recommendations, the plans of other athletic organizations in our region, and our area sailing organizations (including our host venues).
During the fall season, sailors who are on campus at their college or university may continue to practice, subject to the practice limits approved by the ICSA for Fall 2020. In order to practice, we will ask that teams fill out a compliance form signed by their school's administration to ensure that all schools are aware and endorse practice this season. Further, schools will be required to stick to a 14-hour practice limitation during each week as voted by the ICSA membership on July 15. Key documents: https://collegesailing.org/about/covid-19-info The definitions of "Athletic Related Activities" can be found in the Procedural Rules (Appendix A): https://www.collegesailing.org/documents/ICSA_Documentation/2017-2020_Procedural_Rules_2017-02-15.pdf Throughout the Fall we will host a series of webinars aimed at keeping our teams engaged and helping to further improve our conference upon our return to the water. Topics to be discussed are being developed, and we would like your feedback (see below). *We will host another PCCSC call at 4pm PT on Monday, August 10th* to discuss plans moving forward, including efforts to ensure that our teams stay engaged during this season without competition. I will send out information on that call in the coming days. *In the meantime, please help me with two things from each of your teams:* 1. Begin conversations with the sailors on your teams to ensure that they are aware of the changes for the fall and that they continue to stay engaged with your team, even when not on the water weekly. Connect with your college administration and let them know of the decision to cancel competition in our conference this fall and begin steps to get practice approved if you think that your team would be able to do so. Prep that administrator that you will be returning to sailing in Spring 2021 along with the rest of the conference. 2. Submit ideas of topics you would like to see addressed across our conference in the coming months. Ideas may include administration ideas, sailing topics, fundraising, etc. We will help assemble key groups or panels to help each team improve during this time. Finally, I want to ensure that everyone has my contact information should they need it in these coming weeks. Please reach out if you have any issues with your teams, university administration or anything else involving PCCSC or ICSA. Blaine Pedlow [email protected] 510.206.0003 mobile I'm thinking of all of you and your teams during this difficult time, but I am confident that by working together we can weather this COVID storm. Hang in there, be safe, wear a mask and I look forward to celebrating the PCCSC when we resume racing soon. Best, Blaine
