All, As many of you have seen, the ICSA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion task force (TIDE) has been meeting for the last few months to address critical issues of representation and diversity in our sport. I'm excited about the work that they are doing to create an ICSA that better serves sailors of all backgrounds.
Part of the mandate of the task force is to create conference groups to discuss the issues and topics that may be most relevant in our part of the country. I am confident that we will have robust participation in the PCCSC! If you would like to serve as part of the PCCSC TIDE committee, please email Blaine ([email protected]) and the ICSA TIDE committee ( [email protected]) to get started. The committee is open to sailors, coaches and alumni. Also, if you are Black, Indigenous or a Person of Color in the PCCSC or our broader alumni community and have an experience that you would like to share with the committee, please consider sharing your story confidentially here: https://forms.gle/a3feu6mNg4ogAezt8 . These stories help the committee understand and take steps to address the systemic biases that exist at our universities, on our teams, in our conference and in the ICSA as a whole. Thanks, Blaine PCCSC Commissioner Berkeley '02 ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: The Inclusion Diversity and Equity Task Force via ICSA < [email protected]> Date: Tue, Aug 4, 2020 at 4:41 AM Subject: [ICSA] Fwd: Conference TIDE Groups To: <[email protected]> Sailors and Coaches, The Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity (TIDE) Task Force for ICSA is starting TIDE on the conference level. TIDE at the conference level! We are organizing groups to address the same objective outlined below on the conference level! These groups should be made up of sailors, coaches, and maybe a few alumni who are able to represent their region. What is TIDE? The Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity Task Force for ICSA <https://collegesailing.org/about/tide-committee> has been working in a multitude of different areas to address our objectives. Objectives: The Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity (TIDE) Task Force is committed to making college sailing a more inclusive and diverse community that respects and supports sailors of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. We recognize the impact of the national and systemic problems related to equity, access and fair treatment that affect college sailors. We are committed to addressing these issues by creating spaces for underrepresented voices to be heard, and by creating strategies through education, development and infrastructure change to ensure the longevity of these objectives and a long term cultural impact in college sailing. If you or know someone on your team who would be interested, please email us at [email protected] and we can get you connected! We hope that you are finding safe ways to enjoy the summer!
