I have been using a Umax Vista S6E scanner (attached to a PPC 6500) for a couple of
years. We have been very happy with it. A few months ago I upgraded to OS 9. When I
tried to use the scanner in the usual fashion I got an error message to the effect
that it couldn't find the device. I tried various fixes and researched the documents
that UMax provides for such problems and concluded that I couldn't get the scanner to
work with OS 9. It worked fine with OS 8.6. However, the scanner software includes a
function that causes the scanner to work as a copier - you just put something on the
scanner, start the copier program, and then click on the start button and it prints a
copy of what is on the scanner. That program (the copier) works fine with OS 9. A few
weeks ago I asked a question about a firewire PCI card and mentioned not being able to
use the scanner with OS9 as part of the explanation of what I was doing. Someone sent
a response that said something like - all I needed to do was remove vista scan from
the control strip. I didn't really understand and because I was busy with other things
didn't pay as much attention as I should have. I also didn't save the message. I would
like to be able to use this scanner with OS 9. If anyone knows how to make it work I
would appreciate help in getting it to do so.
Thanks.
