I considered getting a Sonnet 7200-G3 PCI card for a 7200/75, also, because
it seemed like such a simple solution. The card is actually closer to a
complete computer-on-a-card than it is to just a CPU upgrade, which gives
the opportunity to provide a faster bus speed, an attractive advantage.
But I was put off by known incompatibilities with certain PCI cards and
unknown incompatibilities with others, according to Sonnet's published
information. So I decided to go the motherboard substitution route, more
work but greater certainty as well as less money. I put a 7500 motherboard
and AV back panel in the old 7200, added an inexpensive 120 MHz processor
daughterboard for now, and will eventually sustitute a G3 daughterboard
(probably Powerlogix, with which I've had simple success). I also
installed a bigger hard drive, but that would have been necessary in either
case. --Art Sable.
