Good morning Ian,
I had a similar problem with word 98. There are a number of possible
solutions.
1. allocate plenty of memory to it. To do this : single click on the
word icon and then press [apple] and [I] together. You should get a
screen which tells you how much memory is allocated to it.... give it a
bit more using the two available options ( minimum and preferred) set
the preferred to the same as the minumum... or a bit more.
2. I found word 98 more stable on OS 9.1
