This might not be a bad idea. I'm not sure about Word, but some 
Microsoft applications automatically replace .lib files if they are 
not there. Explorer does this.

Instead of putting them in your wastebasket, I'd put them in a folder 
temporarily until you confirm that they have been replaced.
