I have found that serial cable network works well although slowly. I have also used zip disks and prefer that option because then you have a secure and relatively stable way of backing up too. In fact I only have apps on my hd's now, all other files are on zip. If both your machines have scsi then you only need to buy one drive.... just remember to turn them off before changing the drive from one to the other.
