Sir,

The mount volume at startup option you are discussing is in the File
Exchange Control Panel (Mac OS 8.5 and up) or in the PC Exchange Control
Panel (Mac OS 7-8.1). Simply select the checkbox. Also, there is a 'Mount
Now' button next to it. If your comp doesn't recognize the drive once
booted, click this button. If the drive mounts, it has been formatted as
a PC SCSI disk and you should turn on the mount at startup option. You
could alson format the drive with drive setup as a Mac volume (if this is
the case) and avoid this whole conflaguration all together. Also, if
neither of these suggestions work, have the termination on your computer
tested. the 6400 uses IDE for all its devices EXCEPT the SCSI chain and
it is possible that your SCSI chain on the logic board is damaged
somehow. I own a 6400 (G3'd) and it exhibitss strange behaviors that I
believe to be innate to the 64xx series of Macs (SCSI disks not mounting
correctly, a flashing disk icon for about 20 sec while looking for system
software on IDE drive, etc.) so I am sure you aren't the only person that
has had problems with this paticular model.

Hope this helps...mail me offlist if you require further assistance, I
will be more than willing to help you out.
