PCI Modems are windows specific and will not work in a Mac (many won't
work properly in a PC either!) as they use windows and the CPU to do
most of the processing, this means that the manufacturer can cut costs
(and corners) by fitting the bare minimum of hardware and emulating
the rest in software (it also slows your PC down as it uses a lot of
processing power to emulate the missing hardware).
(Just as a historical side note Apple played around with a similar
idea with the geoport modems.)
