Hey folks,

Recently I posted an email stating my boot problem
with my PowerMac 9500/150. Basically, I'd have to hit
the power key on the keyboard, listen to the chime,
then do the three key reset combo on the keyboard and
hear the chime for the second time and at that point
it would finally boot. Well, I've come to the
conclusion that it's one or more of my memory DIMM's.

I've come to this decision because for now, the
problem is gone as far as having to do a procedure to
get my system to boot. Now, I just hit the power key
on my keyboard and after the first chime, it boots
right up. What did I do? Per the advise of a few
members of this list, I held down "Command" and
"Option" at the same time when opening the Memory
Control Panel. By doing this, it reveals the option
to turn off or on the built-in self memory test. By
default, it's turned on. So, I turned it off and shut
down my Mac. A few minutes later I booted it up with
no problems at all! BUT. . .

What does this mean now? I would assume that it
makes the idea of bad RAM more of a fact now. I just
don't have to time to test each and every DIMM. What
I need to know is. . .will running my machine now
cause any damage? I'm currently running 9.0.4 which I
like better than 9.1. Everything is very stable, and
I've had no serious problems, other than the usual
"Type 1,2,or 3 errors" from time to time, although
even those are becoming more and more rare.

So if anyone has input, let me know. . .thanks! And
I'm glad I joined this list. . .because of all of your
input. . .I've been able to solve a problem I've had
for years in a few seconds!!!! :)

Jess
