I'll second SoundApp. Works great and takes up very little RAM.
And the computer crashing and MP3s continuing to play is the oddest thing.
I've had this happen on a PC too. Windows freezes up completely (mouse and
all), but the MP3 keeps going. It even advances in the playlist. (!)
The computer plays the fiddle as Rome burns. :)
