What I am assuming by the $89 price is that you are looking at a scsi card
made by Adaptec. This is a similar card only it is made by Orange Micro
which produces a lot of Mac stuff. Since it is a similar card it will work
the same way and save you $20. When you buy either one of these cards and
install it in your Mac you will be able to hook a number devices to the
card. I think it is 7 externally and 7 internally. With SCSI you are able
to daisy chain devices together. In other words plug one device into the
back of another and so on up to the maximum of the capacity of the scsi
card. So for instance you might plug a scanner into the card on the back of
the Mac and then to the back of the scanner plug in a zip drive, then to the
back of the zip drive plug in a hard drive, and so on. Each device has to
have a separate id (called a scsi id) and most devices have on the back a
picture of a wheel with numbers and an arrow that can be rotated to point at
a number. Usually you don't use 0 as it is reserved for the motherboard and
the card in the machine alot of times uses id 7. A good way to find out is
to download a program called scsi probe and it will tell you what id each
device is at. Also when you put in an internal card it will usually have two
buses. One internal and one external. This then allows 7 devices per bus
thereby being able to hook up 14 devices to one card. The only other thing
to remember is that the last device in the chain needs to be terminated.
External zip drives have a switch on back which says termination on or off so
is always a good device to have at the end of the chain. Other devices may
have this but usually need a piece that plugs into the leftover port. It is
called a terminator. Sometimes they are provided with the device and some
times you need to buy one.

Hope this helps.
