Heh, I hear you.  :)

If I were in your shoes, I'd beg or borrow a USB device from anybody who
would take pity on me.  A spare zip drive, keyboard, cd drive, whatever.  If
it won't work when I plug it in (with whatever drivers it needs), its a good
bet the USB card is the issue.  If the device works, then it is an issue
with the printer.  Of course, there could be more to the problem, but its a
start.
