I found the upgrade for $12 in a discount bin for mine. In the late 90s the Mach64 had a better 2D engine than ATI's 3D cards, but I don't know if that remains true. 2D cards are perfectly great for desktop work (finder, surfing, word processing, spreadsheets). However, Hardware 3D acceleration is required if you're a serious gamer. There's a big huge awesome difference between my ATI Mac64 and my ATI 3D pro when playing 3D games.
