Hi Linda and Steve,
Kyle on the list helped me with my HD problems.  He suggested I return
it to Seagate for repairs.  The process is quite easy, get a RMA number
right online.  Anyway the sound mine made was like the playing card on
the bicycle spoke.  Every time I would do ANYTHING it made this sound.

Mine is a ST39173N.

I returned it already.  Waiting for the repaired drive or a new one now.
