Cheryl:

I've got 6.1 running no problem on my G4/400 at work, so, as to being on a
G3/upgraded, YMMV. It's using 28 MB of RAM on my machine, and, while I dream
of the days of Navigator 1.13 running in 2MB of RAM, I'm not dissatisfied
with it.

It's possible that Navigator is too much app for an upgraded 8500, which is
ridiculous, but....

It *is* an improvement, but the worst parts of 6.0 were serious bugs, in
addition to crappy performance. :-)
