As long as we're waxing nostalgic, I remember that at the start of my Freshman year at my first college (Clarkson College of Technology, now Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY), we were REQUIRED to carry a slide rule (mine: K&E LogLog Duplex Decitrig) and take a course in its use. Also, 1963 was the year that Clarkson admitted its first female student (just one: a math grad student) and built an entire building to house its first computer (IBM of some sort). My wrist watch probably has more memory than that computer.
