I remember my father, now a long-retired engineer, moving a circular
slide rule so fast that it seemed to smoke! But, I got out of
engineering after two years of college and transferred to Cornell
('68) where I earned a BS in Wildlife Biology so I could work
outdoors and get paid for it. I still have my slide rule, still know
how to use it and every once in awhile, drag it out and demonstrate
it to some young hot-shot computer whiz who had never seen one
before. Of course, a slide rule doesn't use much electricity - very
useful during a power failure.
