I've used the 4mb Matrox cards in a 7600 and I didn't need to use the Matrox drivers at all. I did, however, have to do a flash upgrade of the BIOS chip so that the cards would work on a Mac. There was also a small dip switch on the card, but I can't remember what it said on the switch...VGA or something.
