Hi Chris,

I forgot to include "to put in a comm slot-styled ethernet card and
thereby free up one of my pci slots because an ethernet card inhabits
one of the two pci slots now" in the passage:

Unfortunately, I must give up one of the pci slots on this
anal-retentive design of a motherboard. I could use the comm slot if
I were guaranteed it would work.

Regards and Good Luck,

Tim Sullivan

P.S: I had similar modem problems with a 6400.
