Hello all. I have a PM 7500 upgraded with a G4-400 card, 512MB ram, and an
ATI Rage Orion video card. Has anyone tried to install OS 10.1 on a
similar system? I have a NewerTech G4 card and the Sonnet v1.1 PCI
software to make it work in 10.1. They both work fine, no problem at all.

My only problem came with the Orion 128. 10.1 just won't load with it as
the active video. It boots fine with the onboard video (only two megs!)
and works fine, just a little slow of course. I can even boot with the
monitor attached to the onboard video AND with the Orion still plugged in.

The Orion has the latest ROM update (09/2001), which is supposed to fix the
problem. But it doesn't, I still get the "kernel panic" on boot.

So, has anyone else had this problem, and perhaps overcome it? I sure
would like to know, and how you did it.

Otherwise, has anyone had a similar machine with a DIFFERENT video card
that DID work? I've been interested in buying another video card, and it
pretty much comes down to the ATI Radeon for the Mac, or the nVidia
Geforce2 MX for the Mac (I'm having trouble finding that one).

ANY and ALL help would be appreciated. Thank you.

PS...I've also had trouble getting my brand-new Xircom 4-port USB card
(PCI) working in 10.1. Haven't worked on it much, so I'm not sure how much
of a problem it is yet. I'm just surprised that a USB card would have any
trouble at all. I think Apple intended this OS more for their current
machines, and not much on older ones.
