I bought a PM 7500 a couple of years ago to take over duties of my main computing duties from my trusty Quadra 650. I bought a G4 "gigabit" tower last spring. I waited until the newer model G4's were announced at the time and bought my G4 as a 'second line' model for about $1200 as the stores were trying to clear out their inventory to make room for the new machines. Even though I have this G4, I don't see retiring the 7500 anytime soon. I put an XLR8 Zif Carrier in it along with a G3 266 processor. I decided not to go nuts upgrading the machine by throwing a lot of money into it. That upgrade cost about $130 at the time and was very reasonable considering the performance boost it provided. I find myself still using the 7500 quite a bit. Right now, I use it for all my scanning and printing needs. I have a LaserWriter Pro 600 attached to it. I also use it for all my Office 98 production needs. (Have to use that for school compatability.) I had a beige G3 266 at one time, and to tell the truth, I liked the 7500 better. I sold off the beige G3. I also decided I wasn't going to go nuts "upgrading" the G4 to make it "backwards compatible" with the stuff I already owned. No messing with adapters, buying floppy drives, etc. for this machine because the 7500 handles all my older equipment fine. Maybe I'll find a reason to retire the old Duo 280 someday and get an iBook, but for now the Duo rules the roost for my portable needs. :)
What are you using your comps for? Rich (BTW, I really got started with Macs by building a lab in my classroom. The school I was with at the time was not putting much money into technology. I lost patience with the process and started to buy, beg, or borrow any 'old' mac I could get my hands on. SE's, SE/30's, and various Quadras made up the lab. We got a lot of use out those machines for my Math classes.) -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
