I think you're missing the obvious - using 70ns RAM with your G3
upgrade.  G3 upgrade mfr's uniformly recommend 60ns RAM, and
specifically warn about potential problems with using slower modules.

Also, XLR8 upgrades almost always tolerate memory interleaving better
than their competitors' products...but it can occasionally cause problems.
